  • Eat Evolve Food Delivery Review

I’ve always been fascinated by food delivery services; The idea of having someone else cook and deliver all of your meals for you sounds like something only celebrities can enjoy. Years ago the ‘big players’ in the food delivery service offered powdered soups and highly processed meal replacement bars, focusing on low calories instead of food quality.

Now there are several food delivery companies that are offering highly nutritious, freshly prepared meals for all types of diets, needs and budgets. I had the pleasure of trying such a service from Eat Evolve who focus on delivering clean and natural meals for those with a busy lifestyle.

Eat Evolve offer several plans where you decide how many meals you want to have delivered, whether it is one meal a day, or a whole weeks worth of meals. I trialled the ‘On the Go’ plan, with 5 meals intended to be used as lunch or dinner for 5 days. When ordering my plan, I was able to choose a main and a side for each meal which I loved as it meant I could mix and match my meals. For example, for one of my meals I chose turkey meatballs as my main and pesto sweet potato noodles as my side – a perfect pairing if you ask me!

    Review: Eat Evolve Food Delivery

    The Delivery

My meals were delivered in a cardboard box which was fairly discreet, perfect as I had mine delivered to my office. (Note: The company have since rebranded so I’m not sure how the meals will be packaged now). I was surprised to find I had been given breakfast and snacks too – I received spinach and bacon frittatas, grain-free granola and paleo seeded cookies, which were more like bars than cookies. Inside the box my meals were kept chilled with ice packs and the food was vacuum sealed in clear plastic bags to keep the freshness locked in. However, the egg frittatas and salmon fillets looked far from appetising in this type of packaging. That aside I couldn’t wait to get started!

    The Eat Evolve Meals

Instead of having one meal a day for 5 days, I decided to cram all of my meals into 2.5 days so that I could live a life of luxury and not have to cook a single meal myself for a few days. On the first day I had the bacon and spinach frittata for breakfast. It looked so tiny on my little saucer plate that I was sure I’d be starving, but it was delicious and kept me fuller for longer than I expected – result! Next I snacked on the paleo seeded bar which so moreish and crumbly with the perfect hint of sweetness. Seriously, this bar deserves its own M&S style food-porn ad. Lunch was sun-dried tomato grilled chicken with roasted Mediterranean veg. Good, clean, simple food that was beautifully flavoured and seasoned. That night I was having dinner with a friend which I’d planned long before my meal delivery so I stuck to my scheduled cheat meal and enjoyed a pizza and sticky toffee pudding – divine.

Day two was a repeat of the bacon and spinach frittata, something I need to start making myself because I loved having this for breakfast. My mid-morning snack was half a cup of the grain-free granola with my almond milk. Lunch was the highlight – chicken satay with broccoli and pak choi… My oh my. The satay sauce was delicious and the chicken fillet was so tender. Up next was the paleo seeded bar to satisfy my afternoon sweet-tooth and dinner was a light, yet filling salmon fillet, mushy peas with mint and half an avocado that I added myself.

Day three came around much too quickly, I was getting far too used to having varied and delicious meals each day without lifting a finger myself. I’d finished the frittatas so I had a bowl of the grain-free granola with my almond milk and a banana. Next up I decided to have a Chi coconut water, not really a snack but it was something different as I usually only drink water, peppermint tea and green tea. Lunch was a chicken creole stew with plantain and slaw veg. I adore plantain and I had never tried creole stew before so I thoroughly enjoyed this lunch. For my afternoon snack I bought COYO Coconut yogurt and topped it with more of the grain-free granola. Dinner was bittersweet as it was my favourite meal of all, but I knew my time with Eat Evolve was coming to an end. I’d chosen turkey meatballs with pesto sweet potato noodles as my last meal and it was of course delicious. I’d never had sweet potato noodles before but that sure won’t be my last time.

    Pros

    • All meals are delivered fresh, with fresh ingredients and not processed in any way.
    • There wasn’t a single meal I didn’t enjoy. I honestly loved them all and was amazed how well flavoured each meal was.
    • I didn’t have to food shop or cook! Pretty obvious, but such a huge pro as it meant I saved so much time by not having to write a meal plan or shopping list, trawl around a supermarket and spend time cooking.
    • I recently found out I am sensitive to cow’s milk and yeast and Eat Evolve meals didn’t include these ingredients. I didn’t experience any bloating or sluggishness on day’s 2 or 3, so it opened my eyes as to how important it is that I eliminate these things from my diet.

    Cons

    • At £55 for the ‘On the Go’ plan I had, it’s not cheap. If good quality food is a priority in your budget and you can do without a new handbag that month then I’d definitely recommend it.
    • Each main and each side is packaged separately in vacuum packed bags. Although this locked in the freshness and flavours, I felt like I was throwing away a lot of bags.
    • Every meal listed all of the ingredients, but not the calories or nutritional breakdown. I would have loved to have known this so that I could make better choices for additional snacks or meals I was adding in myself.

Looks like an awesome service. Similar types of services are getting popular in the US now and I SO wish they had something like Eat Evolve in France! Thanks for the review.

Interesting read – I’ve toyed with the idea of getting a food delivery service but always feel they are so expensive! Sometimes I think I just need to make more effort to meal prep on a Sunday!! Sounds great though as it’s minimal effort… maybe one day I’ll give it a go!

I completely agree with you, sometimes I love meal prepping on a Sunday and other times I wish I had my own chef. Trialling Eat Evolve was a luxury and I loved it, I just wish it was more affordable so I could have it on a regular basis. I’ll be budgeting so that I can treat myself to a food delivery again in the future though x

Great post! I have been looking at signing up to another similar service – I guess it comes down to convenience over cost, the food sounds amazing though.

Definitely, it depends on your needs and your budget. If I could, I’d have this all the time! The meals from Eat Evolve were delicious and I’d love them to cook for me everyday. Hopefully one day!
