  • Healthy Snacks On the go

Cooking from scratch is always best. When you take fresh ingredients and turn them into something wonderful that is healthy and nutritious for you, well there’s nothing like it. You know exactly what has gone into your food and therefore what is going into your body. However, with our busy lifestyles sometimes life gets in the way and we just don’t have the time to prepare ahead.

That’s why I like to keep a stash of healthy snacks for on the go to hand so that I’m always prepared when hunger strikes. I love a snack, if you’ve seen my Weekly Eats post you’ll have seen I snack once to twice a day, everyday. So today I’m going to share with you some of my favourite snacks that aren’t so harsh on the waistline and that can easily be bought when on the go.

    Tyrrell’s Poshcorn

From the makers of those yummy vegetable crisps comes this brand new snack – popcorn’s grown up and gone posh. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure what makes these kernels ‘gold-standard’ as Tyrrell’s describes them but they taste great, especially the new flavours Lemon Cupcake and Coconut & Caramel. The popcorn aren’t clean in the clean eating sense, but as they have no artificial ingredients, they are a far better choice than many brands of flavoured crips.

    The Primal Pantry Paleo Bars

I adore the packaging of these bars, they’re just so pretty – can you say that about a snack bar?! I guess I just did. These bars are paleo, which means they do not contain grains, refined sugars or vegetable oils. I love how each bar clearly and proudly states the number of ingredients in each one. For example the Almond & Cashew bar has just four ingredients: dates, almonds, cashew nuts and almond oil. That’s it! You don’t have to worry about artificial flavourings, added sugar, preservatives and all that other bad stuff. Just enjoy a healthy snack on the go with no worries, if you can bare to rip into the packaging that is.

    Trek wholefood Energy Bars

I stocked up on these when I went to Be:Fit London earlier this year and loved the Banana Blast flavour. These bars are very dense and very filling so are perfect for keeping in your car when going on a road trip, or popping in your bag when you’re going cycling or for pre or post-workout. With 10g of protein in a 55g Banana Blast bar, it will keep you full and satisfied for longer. I’ll eat one of these when I know I’m going to the gym after work and won’t have dinner until quite late. They’re the ideal pre-workout snack for me.

Nakd Raw Fruit & Nut Bars

Nakd bars, where do I start. I love these cute, fun looking bars. They’re gluten, wheat and dairy free, they’re 100% vegan and 100% vegetarian, they’re great for almost everyone (steer clear if you have a nut allergy). Like The Primal Pantry bars, Nakd bars have minimal ingredients, in fact the Cashew Cookie bar has just two ingredients: cashews and dates. The bars are cold-pressed and never baked which means they retain more nutrients. I love these for when I’m craving something sweet, which let’s face it, is every day.

So there you go, some of my favourite healthy snacks on the go when I haven’t had a chance to prepare my own. Having a stash of snacks to grab and go or buy when out and about is vital for staying on track and not reaching for a calorie laden chocolate bar or packet of crisps packed with artificial ingredients.

Whaaaat, I haven’t tried the coconut Trek bar! I’ll be getting that next time I’m in Holland & Barrat, and the Nutty Nine bars – I haven’t tried those either. Thanks for the recommendations :) xxx
