Five Fitness Classes of 2015

With the start of a new year comes New Year’s Resolutions and soon gyms will be packed with everyone trying to get fit in 2015. Don’t hate on them for wanting to make a change, encourage them. However, if you don’t want to have to queue to use the treadmill or squat rack, then I’ve got five exciting fitness classes you must try this year.

barrys-bootcamp-londonWhat: Barry’s Bootcamp
Where: Euston and soon, Shoreditch
Why: It’s pegged as the toughest workout in the world and after trying it myself I can wholeheartedly agree. Yet it somehow leaves you wanting more (afterwards, during you may want to cry). Burn 1000 calories in an hour by switching from High intensity intervals on the army inspired treadmills (designed to let you run hard and fast) to bodyweight moves and lifting heavy weights. Different days focus on different body parts and no workout is ever the same. The trainers are motivating and tough, they’ll call you out by name and encourage you to nudge the treadmill speed up.
Who: Not for the faint-hearted.

boom-cycleWhat: BOOM Cycle
Where: Shoreditch and Holborn
Why: A spin class with an ace playlist. You don’t have to worry about the level of resistance or the speed you’re going at. Forget the numbers and instead lose yourself in the music, peddle to the beat in-sync with the rest of the class. The instructors are motivational and encourage you to make it your own workout. Not only that but BOOM Cycle studios are lovely – towels, spin shoes and padlocks for the lockers are provided, the showers are in their own private rooms which is ideal for an early spin class before work or a class before heading out.
Who: Music lovers.

frame-x-trainWhat: Frame X-TRAIN
Where: Shoreditch and Queens Park
Why: Frame X-TRAIN is a new cross training class focusing on HIIT training using TRX, free weights, weighted vests and plyometric movements. Classes are held in small groups to give you that hands-on personal training experience without the price tag. This class guarantees to leave no muscle untouched. I’m booked in to try a class this month and I can’t wait.
Who: Those who want a personal trainer without the cost

the-grid-virgin-activeWhat: The Grid
Where: Virgin Active, Multiple locations
Why: The Grid is a new intense workout that burns serious calories. I tried it out myself and let me tell you, you’ll work up a sweat, have fun and feel proud when it’s done. There are four classes, Grid Lean (HIIT style), Grid Strong (weights and resistance), Grid Fit (aerobic conditioning) and Grid Active (obstacle training). You do different exercises in different parts of the grid using your bodyweight and equipment like spin bikes, trx cables, tyres, Viprs, bulgarian bags and so much more.
Who: Those who like to sweat and sweat hard.

ski-ram-yoga-crystal-skiWhat: Ski-ram Yoga by Crystal Ski Holidays
Where: The Union Chapel, Islington
Why: We all know the benefits of yoga by now and many of us have sweat it out in a Bikram yoga class or two. Have you ever practiced yoga in just two degrees celsius, whilst dressed in full ski gear? Get in shape for your Winter ski holiday or get a taster of skiing with the all new and exclusive Ski-ram Yoga.
Who: Yoga bunnies who love Winter and layers.

Ahhh you’re making me want to take a little mini-break to the UK just to try these classes. There’s pretty much nothing like any of these out where I live in France. I think Boom Cycle is the one I’d like to try most. Barry’s Bootcamp is kind of scaring me. Awesome roundup and will definitely give them a go if I find myself in London….
